As I made my way to the white tents at the Hilton, it kind of reminded me of a scene from New York Fashion Week.
Maybe not on the same scale but very close to it. Keren Charles continues to embrace the Atlanta Fashion market with her elegant yet exclusive "Swapnista" Events which allows small business owners not only to expose their products or services but to place them on the map in a major way!!! Various media outlets are taking notice to the FashionENVY queen and we cant help but chime in as well.. Ya Girl definitely enjoyed the array of models, vendors ( Special Hello to the ladies of Laura's Closet) and complimentary massage services from Develon the masseuse. I have to say with the quality of fashion events in Atlanta sometimes I cant help but wonder but I can't say the same for "Swapnista"... This event is well put together and the quality of the fashion show gets an A+ in my book... Always glad to witness the continuous evolution of "The Swapnista Events"...

And I don’t want them too either! Being a boutique owner myself, I always give credit when it’s due and Forever 21 is a phenomenon in the fashion world for every fashionista – they have tons of super duper pieces that are fun, creative, and affordable. Right up my alley and probably yours too!

Just to give you a brief history lesson 101 - Forever 21 started in a 900 square foot location on Figueroa Street in Los Angeles (yep, my hometown) on April 21, 1984 and at the end of the first year, sales were from $35,000 to $700,000 – can we say “All About the Benjamins” baby in my best Sean Puffy Combs voice. By 2005, Forever 21 was operating over 355 locations nationwide – United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Saudi Arabia just to name a few.

Forever 21 is still steadily growing quickly and on June 25^th, another location opens at TIMES SQUARE, so let’s hear it for New York in my best Alicia Keys voice. Sidebar, clearly I love music right!? Lol

The store opens at 10:00am SHARP and ladies, get ready to walk the red carpet photo booth, and be delighted with the manicure and makeover stations and don’t forget that PLASTIC! Have fun shopping and tons of XOXO.

Barbie Pink Lips.....Do We Love It?

For the past couple of days I've been on a " Barbie Pink" high.. And I can't get enough of the trending summer color... I ran to the nail salon this weekend & slapped the color on as if it was the last thing on earth I needed to accomplish..... And so I thought, what about trying a Barbie Pink lip...Celebrities like Rihanna, Monica, & Nikki Minaj can't seem to get enough of the color either... And I'm really considering running down to MAC to copp me a new "stick" and get out of the safe "Love Nectar" Gloss that I always rock... (Ok, only MAC users know what I'm talking about)...

So I did a little research and Lady Gaga has a limited edition VIVA Glam lipstick with MAC that is the perfect shade I'm looking for... As with all VIVA GLAM products, proceeds of the purchase goes to the M·A·C AIDS Fund to support the fight against HIV/AIDS...I love it!!

It's only $14 bucks at your local MAC location or online and definitely worth a try.... I'll keep you posted on how it goes with the Barbie Pink Lip!!

And maybe I'll find my Dream House and Ken while I'm at it....

HELLOO my fellow Recessionista's..... I know, we hear it all the time... "We're in a recession!" or "Our economy is at its worse, since The Great Depression." It has all been going in one ear and out the other for me. My attitude was....maybe America is in a recession, but Miss Anita is NOT a recession! I was in some SERIOUS denial!

For some reason everytime I turned around, there was some financial emergency that came along. One after another. So, I stopped going to the mall, stopped following all the latest fashion trends, and stopped reading all of the latest glam magazines and blogs...along with all of the rest of the exciting things that go on in the wonderful world called Fashion. So oneday I was down, I mean Really Down! I figured.....what's the point in keeping up with all of it, if I couldn't afford to go to the mall and splurge on all of the fabulosity that the mall had to offer?!? So to cheer myself up, I did what I do best....I Decided to head back there out there and SHOP..(LOL!)

Except this time, instead of going to the mall and drooling like a kid in a candy store with no money, I went to visit my old friend, TJ, you guys may know him as

TJ Maxx.

And OMGEE, look what I found:

Walaah!!!!! Yes, it was love at first sight when I spotted these bad boys!!!... And to add the cherry on top, they were only $49.99!!!

........Much better than the Christian Louboutin's at Neiman Marcus for a whopping $825.00!!!

And since, it is a recession!!!, I couldn't dare purchase a pair of shoes and not even have anything to wear with it!

.... So I picked up with these Dereon jeans, also found at TJ Maxx, for only $20.00!!!!, paired it up with a $6.00 stretch tank top and a $3.90 necklace from Body Central, and completed my look with some earrings and gold chain belt I found laying around the house.

.....And now I'm ready for a night on the town to

"Shake my Deriere with my Dereon!!!!" Uh, oh, oh, ohh, oh , oh, oh!

Or how classic Charlotte is while the Sexy, Chic, Samantha threw a little of her spice at Miranda's way this time around.. Sex And The City 2 brought me back to the days I'd walk past Bryant Part and dream of how fashion lives behind those white tents. It brought me to a place of what fashion really means.. And YES labels play a big factor to the lifestyle but it's the life behind the label that makes it all worthwhile... You see, fashion comes from within and if you exude Style then it rolls right off you.. It shows how being yourself is ok as long as you do it "fashionably correct" in your own way!!!

This year's Grammy's was pretty memorably exciting..... with the acrobatic circus performance by Pink, Beyonce's HOT as FIRE!!!! version of

"If I Were a Boy!" and a beautiful, beautiful tear-jerking Michael Jackson Tribute featuring Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson,

Celine Dione, and Smokey Robinson. But when it came to fashion, this year I must say I wasn't so excited. There were a few hits, but lots of misses!

MISSES!

My two most disappointing misses on this list was Beyonce and Ciara. Though she made up for it with her BOMB performance, Beyonce made the list because for her ...this gown is very mediocre. This gown would be more suitable for her mama...and those gaudy gold-toned earrings clashed with the soft champagne color of her dress. She should have went with diamonds or pearls instead....

And then there's Ciara, who usually is very stunning and unique, but this lace see-through get up... I just don't get it. Next there's some girl named Kesha...I really don't know who she is, but she's on the red carpet, so you guys probably know who she is. Anyway, her Tina Turner "Proud Mary" inspired fringe dress just does not belong on the red carpet. And finally, there's Brittany. I don't have to say much, but to put it simply....WHAT THE HELL!!!!

These days, Matthew Knowles, daddy and manager of Beyonce and Solange, just can't catch a break!!!...These last few months have been packed with drama. Back in early October 2009, it was reported that Matthew Knowles allegedly had a baby on the way by no-name actress Alexsandra Wright.

(I couldn't even google her!) Then on November 11, 2009, it was reported that estranged wife and House of Dereon designer and owner, Tina Knowles, filed for divorce after almost 30 years of marriage.....Now here it is January 2010 and the last member of Destiny's Child, Michelle Williams has fired Matthew Knowles as her business manager. (Kelly Rowland fired Mr. Knowles in early 2009.)

Michelle stated:

"After much prayer and consideration I have decided to part ways from my management team, Mathew Knowles and Music World Entertainment. From my time in Destiny’s Child to my solo career, I am grateful for everything Mathew and his team has done for me. We’ve shared great success together. However, as I move in a new direction in my career, I felt it was time. I wish Matthew Knowles and the Music World Entertainment family all the best.”

This just proves the saying, "More Money, More Problems!" to be true. No matter how much money the Knowles family may have, these are some seriously difficult issues for ANYONE to have to endure, especially when you have to deal with them publicly. I personally pray for them during this difficult time and I hope that Mr. Knowles takes this time to take a self-inventory and makes some managerial changes in his own personal life.

In October 2009, Timberland launched the Timberland Earthkeepers Yele Haiti boots and most recently added Tshirts designed by Haitian children to the collection. Initially, for every purchase of of the Yele Haiti collection, Timberland was to make a donation to Haiti to help plant a tree in Haiti and promote environmental education. Well, THE WORD IS OUT!!!....and according to Pantone, the official color experts, the new "it" color is TURQUOISE! This year we will see turquoise everything, apparel, accessories, make-up, even home fashions and electronics. Hmmmm.......This is interesting, last Spring we saw a lot of blues, but mostly darker hues like navy. Many are saying its kind of symbolic, since last year many of us were suffering from depression because of the recession, and we definitely had the blues. OMG! I just got home about an hour ago, I got on the Internet to find that Brittany Murphy is dead at age 32. Apparently, she died this morning from cardiac arrest. For those of you, who don't know who she is, she was the girl that played "Tye" in the '95 movie Clueless....You know, she was..."Rollin wit da homies!".... She also played in another one of my favorite movies, Uptown Girls (2003) with Dakota Fannin. I LOVED her in Uptown Girls. She was so fashion-forward, fun-spirited, and sweet. From the comments of people that knew her personally, she was that way in real life. Ironically, in 2006, she was also featured in a movie called The Dead Girl. This is such a tragedy, she was so young, and very talented. This sucks,... I swear, 2009 must have the worst Celebrity Death List Ever!!! I feel so bad for her family, they must be HORRIFIED, especially her husband. She just recently got married in 2007. Well anyway, my condolences go out to her family and all of her fans.

RIP Brittany.

Whether short and pixie OR medium- length with waves or curls OR long and totally weaved out, Hair is a woman’s pride and glory and should be rocked accordingly. It’s such a topic of discussion that even comedian Chris Rock debuted a movie entitled “Good Hair” a few months back, which was very eye- opening for most and comical for others.

As with fashion, hair changes just as much ,so you MUST keep up with the trends. As a cosmetologist from the state of California, I am absolutely enamored with the hair industry – everything from the salon talk to enhancing a woman’s outward appearance, and of course the folks that come in selling any and everything from accessories, clothes, games for kids, you name it, the beauty salon will have it . LOL Its just something about the hair industry!

Well, the newest trend for the upcoming new year is COLOR! Not black or reds but warm, rich colors of brown. Caramel, mocha, walnut, cappuccino, or chocolate (why do I sound like I’m having a Starbucks moment) with added sprinkles of honey, bronze, or copper. You can have your trained colorist or hairstylist do highlights, lowlights, or the paneling or blocking technique, whatever tickles your fancy, this is the new “IT COLOR” for 2010. Well, if you don’t, you definitely need to get one and ASAP. Brandi Russell is the mastermind of Sacred Heart Collection because its so very “Classy and Fabulous”. Brandi was so kind to chat with me even though I know she was super duper tired as she just arrived back in the U.S. from India.

Let’s take a moment and see what this brand is all about, shall we….

KD:What is Sacred Heart Collection?

BR: I started the collection in 2008 to bring fun, flirty confidence back into mainstream women's wear. I’ve always avoided the super trendy shopping locations for fear of looking like every other girl. So, I started designing pieces exclusively for myself &friends and word quickly spread, & before I knew it people were asking me where they could purchase their own.

I graduated from Spelman College with a degree in Mathematics and worked for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for a small stint. Totally out of place, I wore all the trend right clothes, but so highly inappropriate for meetings, so I took the advice of my mentor and decided to apply for design school at Parsons School of Design and off to New York I went. I decided that I would eventually start my own line, but I had to learn the ropes first. I worked for several brands, and national retailers over the span of 6 years. All of which gave me the invaluable knowledge that I have used help me run my business.

KD:Sacred Heart has been worn by singers LaToya Luckett & Keri Hilson, who else would you LOVE to wear your collection?

BR: Rhianna as she heads out for a night out in NY or LA or better yet, I would LOVE to see First Lady Michelle Obama in one of my vintage inspired dresses for a luncheon.

KD: You’ve lived in Atlanta, NYC, & Dallas – any fashion similarities or differences?

BR: Each city definitely has its own style. I love the ostentatious swagger that Atlanta emulates, the individuality NYC exudes, and the prim/proper attitude that Dallas emits. It's that bizarre combination, that helps me be a better designer & inspires me. Speaking of, I am inspired by old movies, wallpaper, music, landscape, EVERYTHING! I am also inspired by 50’s glamour – the women of that era got dressed to the nines daily just because.

KD: What’s the next “chess move” for Sacred Heart Collection?

BR: To continue to grow the business. I am working on new styles, coordinating an upcoming photo shoot, and planning a trunk show next month in Atlanta's own BluPrint Boutique. Always looking toward the next season!

Fur is everywhere and is a great way to add some sexy elegance to an outfit as it's an "over the top" fashion must-have, especially if you opt for wild and vibrant colors. Furs can come in array of styles - coats, skirts, stoles, boas, and also can be used in trimming on the cuff or collars of jackets or even gloves.

Fur vests are going to be the most popular for the Fall 2009 season. This trend can be seen all over the fashion runways. Ladies, rock a fur vest with a belt at your waist to show off your coke-bottle body. And Fellas, you can wear fur too, but be careful not to look "pimpish". LOL

Whether you are balling out of control wearing a mink or chinchilla (but please beware of PETA), or a frugal fashionista going for the faux-fur, always bundle up in style!

Have you ever wondered if you could pull off the latest trends in beauty? Designers like Rachel Roy, YSL, Jason Wu and Key Makeup Artists predicted the fall trend in beauty would be deep, dark, Goth lips during this year’s NYC Fashion Week. Is this a current trend or a thing of the good ole’ ‘90’s that makes you ask, “Where they do that at?” Designer Rachel Roy teamed up with Makeup Artist Extraordinaire Bobbi Brown to come up with a standout look for her Fall 2009 Collection:

So after seeing this trend on the runways of fashion week, it makes you wonder how this look will come off on celebrities or models and how exactly they wear it off the runway, but first let’s take it back to when it was hot, the 90’s:

So to make it easily accessible to us ordinary, everyday people, MAC came out with their Style Black Collection which launched in all stores nationwide on September 24th, 2009. This line featured a mysterious and fantasy-filled selection of products that allowed us to bring the runway trend to the everyday streets:

In order to achieve this look, there are a few things that one needs to have:

Prep +Prime lip

Some sort of primer to help with the feathering and bleeding that tends to happen when rich colors are applied to the lip. $14.50

Nightmoth lip pencil

A dark colored lip pencil to outline and color your lips in completely. By shading your lips in, you are allowing the lipstick to adhere to something and will ensure a longer lasting wear without the color fading. $13.00

Midnight Media Mattene lipstick

Whether you prefer black or any dark colored lipstick, apply that color on top of the liner that has already been applied to the lips. If you are not as suave with applying lipstick, use a flat synthetic brush to apply the lipstick to the lips. Work from the inner lip to the outer portion and up to the line of the lips. $14.50

To clean up any uneven lines or bleeding color, touch up your lips with a small angled brush and some foundation powder. Follow the natural line of your lips with the angled brush that has the powder on it. For color selection, use a powder that is a shade lighter than your normal powder so that it can highlight the area around your lips and give you a natural pout. $26.00 for the foundation powder and $19.50 for the small angled brush

My lips appear to have more purple in them because I used MAC’s Nightmoth Lip Liner; however, you can just use a black eye liner to make the black more intense. And remember, since the lip is already very dramatic, keep the eye very neutral and soft because you do not want to take away from the lips.

First it was selling millions of records and having sold out tours, a clothing line, vitamin water and now he has his own cologne. Power by 50 Cent is his new cologne and was officially launched November 5^th. The cologne is available exclusively at Macy's this month and in honor of the launch. 50 kicked off a five-city tour.

Here's what the rapper has to say about his creation:
